Today is the Day After a Hootin' Nite of Play Canvas

=====

Whew, am I worn out... I spent a hootin' night playin' with my favorite feathered friends here at the ranch.  Soooo fun!!!!

This is a small canvas: 6" x 10".

Beginning with an adorable napkin as my inspiration...
I started cutting and applying with DecoArt Decou-page.

The canvas was painted with a couple of my favorite DecoArt colors... Prussian Blue Hue & Quinacridone Gold.

Originally, I was going horizontal - as in the above picture - but the owls just seemed to fly to their own branches!!   So the tree climbed upward and expanded.  For additional texture on the tree... of course... DecoArt Weathered Wood Crackle Medium.

Here are some close-ups of the texture!
I purposely bubbled a bit of the weathered wood to

I didn't spend a lot of time perfecting the branches because they were going to be mostly covered by our owl family.

The coloring of the tree trunk was enhanced with DecoArt Metallic Lustre - Iced Expresso and Rose Gold. Faber-Castelle Big Brush and Pitt Pens were also used on this project.

The owl family was fussy cut from the napkin and applied with Decou-page but it seemed like the napkins material blended right in with the background as you can see below in the picture.  So... I began painting with DecoArt Media Acrylics!  It was really fun to just follow the outline of the owls and leaves with my paint brush plus it allowed me to add a bit of texture with the colors too.

I redid the sentiment too!

I loved how it turned out but it seems a bit "flat" to me so... I added some leaves and some feathers. The leaves were cut out of gelli prints that I had done previously. After cutting the leaves out... I painted over a few of them, to change the coloring a bit, with ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glaze.  One of our ranch hands has two birds and she brings me feathers.  It was great fun to add the feathers above the eyes of the owl family!!!

The little project turned out with lots of texture and fun colors too.  I enjoyed creating a roost for the owl family and going on a frolic to have a HOOTIN great nite of play.

As always.... I really really appreciate you stopping by and reading about my little owl frolic!

And again - my "reply" button is broken on my blog... so I can't tell you thank you in person BUT... your comments always make my day.  Thanks bunches and bunches.
Hugs. j.

Windy Autumn Leaves Mixed Media Canvas

=====

==========================
Hello from Joi at the RR!!

The leaves are just beginning to turn in Texas.
Evenings are cooler so that means....
The hay is piled high in the hay wagon here at the ranch...
Anyone for a cozy ride - just to "enjoy the simple things"?????

Fall scene in our vintage hay wagon!

The Autumn Winds inspired this 20x24 canvas.

This canvas can go "Topsy Turvy".....
which way do you think it looks best???!!!!

Here is how it all came to be!

The beginning - acrylic paints.
The first layer and then many, many more!

Next came a layer of gesso through a stencil:
The Crafters Workshop, 12x12 Ferns.

After all the leaves were in place - they were painted with various colors using Ranger Dylusions Paints and DecoArt Americana.

I loved the bright colors (of course) but I wanted it to be more "fallish" so the next picture is after a wash was completed.

Next came a layer of gesso with my credit card and a wet wipe!

I drew in some branches and then began painting in leaves.

Just kept adding layers of colors to the leaves with the paints and also using Faber-Castell Big Brush and Pitt Pens.

It always amazes me how I get from start to finish!  In this case... I just kept layering and mixing and layering.  And it was the adding of the ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glaze that added the texture and depth of color to the leaves.

As always, thanks bunches and bunches for stopping by.
Hope you get a chance to "Enjoy the Simple Things" this week!
I would LOVE a HELLO from YOU in my comments!
Hugs, j

Something To Be Thankful For....

HOWDY from Joi - at the ranch!!!
First of all, let me say... I am thankful for all of you who put up with me and my blogging artwork!!!! Really truly I am.

Every Thanksgiving, my brother and his family are here at the ranch... hunting, watching football, and eating yummy treats!!  It's usually warm in Texas at Thanksgiving so we spend a lot of time outdoors together.  I am thankful for this time with family!

Hubby made me a cedar board for the project and after collecting some branches and acorns... I began adding layers.

I cut my THANKFUL leaf from cardstock and decorated with:
Faber-Castell Geletos:
Gold Champagne
Red Cherry
Lemon Cream
Metallic Melon
Tangerine

"Thankful" was hand printed with the grey pen. The edge and the leaf veins were done with nougat and magenta:
Faber-Castell Pitt Pens:
Nougat
Magenta
Cold Grey VI

After the leaf was dry, I added some DecoArt Crackle Glaze for some fun texture.

Here are some of the items used in the project... when I took this picture I wasn't sure which ones would end up there!

I made the tag earlier when just playing one day. It is tissue colored tissue paper added to the tag with gel medium! So fun!  For this project, I used my pitt pens and made the yellow flowers and green leaves more fall looking!!!

I fussy cut the leaves and the flowers from some wrapping paper!

This was a fun project to do because I love the fall colors! As you know - any color of orange is my favorite!!!!!
