Creative Jump Start,Jodi Ohl – Out Of Your Head And On To The Canvas

================================

Hello Hello Hello my sweet friends!

This project has been done for a while but.... it just looked so awful that I put it away... thinking not to blog it at all.  BUT... I think I resurrected it to some extent.... and it will perhaps pass for URBAN ART!!!

This is another lesson from Creative Jump Start Workshop at the N*Studio with Nathalie Kalbach.
I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this workshop. It has been WONDERFULLY challenging and FUN for me!!

This lesson was a video tutorial by Jodi Ohl....
Out of Your Head and On To the Canvas.
The Urban Artist: Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Here are some pictures of the process....
it went through a LOT of changes!!!

But I didn't take many pictures in the beginning...
I must have just been having too much fun!
This was just putting layers of paint on - any which way.

Then I decided I needed a stencil to help me out!
I chose the Fiesta stencil/stamp set by Nathalie Kalbach.

I thought I might make them have some sort of conversation in the weird little design above their heads!

But then.... my brain totally went bezerk and I decided to do a wash over the entire piece... WHEW... talk about turning green....
ugh!!! It was actually yellow but picture is crazy too!

So my man and woman looked a bit like this.

And then what?  I had no idea.  I decided to try another stencil. How about LOVE - then my couple will be in love.  Right??!

I chose The Crafter's Workshop stencil by Ronda Palazzari.

But wait.... dear me... I have chopped off my ladies head... WHAT???  Seriously Joi-  you are a ditz for sure!!!

And this is when the canvas "went away"....
until I was able to face the challenge once again!!!!!!!!

In the end.... I'm thrilled to have made a happy little home for my loving, sweet couple!!!

Hehehehehhe - now how CRAZY is that????
Hope you are smiling.
Art is Amazing.... that's for sure!!!

Big Hugs. j.

Inside the Circus - Creative Jump Start, Basquiat by Tori Weyers

HOWDY... from Joi... at the ranch!

 It's a sunny 70 degrees here and it's fun to enjoy the reprieve from the cold.  For sure, our cold is mild compared to most your winters!

This is another project from Creative Jump Start at N*Studio with Nathalie Kalbach.  I have learned soooo much.

This little project is wild and crazy... but that's good for me.
Abstract URBAN Art is difficult so it's a good challenge!
This is again in the "style" of Jean-Michel Basquiat.

NOW... seriously... get ready to laugh...or at least giggle....
Here is my "Inside the Circus" CHAIN MAN!!!
He is on a 8x10 canvas.

Since this is a paid workshop, I can't go into all the processes but I have pictures for you to see how fun it was to just "be creative"!
Following the video tutorial by Tori Weyers.

Those of you that know me... know that I love looking for objects in my work!  Do you see the little man coming through in the doodles below????

Yes - there he is so I drew him in as I saw him on the canvas!

By the way... he has a crown because it is a symbol found in much of Jean-Michel Basquiat's work.

Now some close-ups of the finished piece!
Let me assure you.... my family thinks I have lost my mind seeing this piece!!!  It's all about the learning and growing... like my word for 2016... Burgeon!!!!

Thanks bunches for taking time to stop by!
I have several things ready to blog so maybe you can see them all at once while you are here!!!

Big Hugs to you all!! j.

TIGER LILY on Canvas, Catherine Scanlon – Creative Jump Start

=====================
I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaack once again today!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you aren't tired of looking at my creations - the rest are not quite so crazy as the first two I posted.

I so so so so soooooooooo appreciate your stopping by and your comments. I eagerly read each comment you leave - they inspire me so much in different ways. My reply button still does not work though - boo hoo.

But ... I see your comments and ❤❤ you for writing them.

While I watched Catherine Scanlon's tutorial for Creative Jump Start at N*Studio with Nathalie Kalbach....
I was so inspired and impressed with such talent.

I watched it three times... really!!! And then I tried it.
I was happy with the results.

And two days later... I received a commission to paint three different Easter Lily paintings... so how incredible was that?
Catherine Scanlon and Creative Jump Start taught me what I didn't even know I needed to learn.  What a blessing!

Catherine did her painting with Gouache Paints.

I have never used them and did not have them.
However, I was sitting in my chair on evening and there... on my cedar turntable... a bottle of DecoArt Glazing Medium seemed to all of the sudden be the only bottle in the room.  It was calling me... and the word it was calling was GOUACHE!!!   Would it work? Could I make my own take on gouache so I could do the project?

I had never used the Glazing Medium before either so it seemed like the perfect time to open my new bottle and try it out!

In the photo below... I thought you might like to see how the "skin" dried on my craft mat after the project.  The green and orange are from the Tiger Lily painting and are my version of gouache. I put the brush underneath so you could see the consistency.
The bottom blue skin is regular paint.

I believe the paint had the look and feel of gouache to some extent and I really enjoyed painting with it following Catherine's tutorial.

Here are some pictures of the process.

When I started, I had no idea which way the canvas would end up... I just kept turning it and then I added the stems towards the end.  Once I figured out where I wanted the stems... there was one petal that was sticking out way to far.  This is a picture of the correction!!!

And some more pics of the finished piece.
It is a 12 x 12 canvas.

Thanks bunches for the opportunity to play in these challenges:

Challenge 9 - Ring Out the Old, Bring In the New

I had never used my DecoArt Traditions Glazing Medium.

SELF PORTRAIT!!! Jean Michel Basquiat INSPIRED

=======
===========
==============
=================
=====================

YES ... you read it right... a self portrait - eheheheheh!!!

Are you smiling and curious my creative friends???!!!!

I am still enjoying - very much - the Creative Jump Start workshop with at Nathalie Kalbach Studios.  This week the artist we are studying is Jean Michel Basquiat - Urban Artist.

Here is the CJS Pinterest page if you would like to see his works.

The teacher for this workshop tutorial is:
Entitled: Heart vs Head

Here is my self-portrait.

Yes - I know... I look a bit like I'm on drugs!!! Heheh - hey... I was brave to even try it - don't you think??

Here is the real picture.

First, let me tell you I did not draw it by hand... I traced it from my picture... whew... that was a relief.  It was still a challenge for sure.

Looked a bit better with the black added!!!

I liked it as it was below but it wasn't very Basquiat inspired!

So on I went - following the wonderful tutorial towards urbanism!

In case you can't read it... the sentiment says:

If you straddle the fence, you never have your feet on the ground
sooooooooo
stand on top and crow.... loudly!
Heheheheh!

I actually painted the sentiment on a sign for the ranch several years ago and it is hanging on one of our paths.

I wrote on the back of the canvas to remember why my self-portrait looks so wild.   URBAN ART... me? Crazy stuff!!

Way out of my comfort zone at the onset of 2016!
Guess I'm working to BURGEON!!!
Hugs. j.

2016 Joi@RR WORD - Henri Matisse Inspired

=========
===============
==================
======================
========================

HOWDY to ALL you Sweet Creation Makers!!!

Here is my last Henri Matisse inspired art work.

I have never chosen a "word" for the year before...
and I wasn't going to do it this year either!
UNTIL it became a project for the Creative Jump Start Workshop.

Here is a link to N*Studio for info on CJS.

The problem was that I just couldn't think of one that really inspired me. I asked my best friend, I asked my hubby...
and still... there was just nothing.  Finally I looked in the dictionary while sitting in my chair one evening and FOUND IT!!!
YES... it's a crazy word and I didn't even know how to say it.
I listened to the audio pronunciation!!!!
So here is a hint.... it sounds like Virgin!

 I added other words to help me remember the meaning!

The "leaf" drawings are Henri Matisse type designs.

Here is the link to the Henri Matisse Pinterest Board from Creative Jump Start if you are curious to see some of his work.

I began with a piece of canvas that already had some paint on it.

The Creative Jump Start teacher/artist for this project is:
The workshop is entitled: InkyArtsy Alphabet.

I wrote my word out by hand and painted it.

Then I just began to follow the tutorial!

Of course... I am a long way from creating the beautiful
InkyArtsy Alphabet that JoAnne Sharpe can create!
But... if you look at the word Florish... I was sorta getting it!!
LOTS more practice needed!!!!

Finally a finished project that will inspire me throughout 2016!

Thank you so much for sharing in my "word" of the year!

The word Burgeon is all about art for me.
It would be thrilling if my paintings would...
improve, develop and bud.... causing my art to thrive, florish and prosper! What a blessing that would be for 2016.

Hugs. j.

PORTRAIT on Canvas - Henri Matisse REVISITED

====
========
============
================
=====================

It's me.... Joi@RR - back again with another Henri Matisse inspired creation for you.  This was done as a result of a class I am taking through Nathalie Kalbach of N*Studio - Creative Jumpstart 2016.

You can still join us - it's incredible!!!

We are studying the artwork of Henri Matisse this week.
Julie Fei-Fan Balzer gave a FANTASTIC tutorial on doing a portrait... and of course, it was Matisse inspired.

Ok... so I am still totally in SHOCK.... seriously shocked...
Because.... me, myself, and I - did a portrait.

I look at it and think... did I really do this? Even hubby is befuddled by this new found ability!!!   It's wild and crazy and amazing!!!

NO silly... I didn't mean my portrait is amazing - eheheheh!!!  Dear me... it's not amazing at all.  BUT... it IS amazing that I actually see a face staring back at me from my canvas.  I think Julie Balzer is a great teacher - for sure. Thank you Julie - soo much!!

Julie chose a Henri Matisse portrait and redid it... showing us how.
Her version was WONDERFUL... it really was/is.

I didn't choose the portrait she did... but did another one that brought back memories of my hubby's mother!

Here is the Henri Matisse portrait.

And here is my take on 12 x12 stretched canvas!!!

I began by sketching and without a lot of hope that I could do this.

I used watercolor sticks here.  She looks pretty scary!!

I began adding water and more colors a bit at a time.

I used: Watercolor Sticks, Pitt Pens, DecoArt Media Acrylics and lots of gesso for all my mistakes!!

 I totally forgot about taking pictures... I was sooo intently trying to watch Julie's tutorial video and do each step as she did.  This is how it looked before I worked on the face/hair more.

There was no widow's peak and the hair was not puffed out as much. Plus the eyebrows and eyes needed help too.  As well as the ruffles at the neck and down the front.

And this is a close-up of the face when I finished!!

Of course, it's far from perfection.  Still - for me - who has never believed I could do this... it's nearly a miracle.

I have traced faces.  I have used tissue paper faces.  And I have even sketched very tiny stick figure type faces. I even did Santa but he's all beard!!!  Never have I been brave enough to actually try to paint a face on a canvas like this.  And NO... it is not my favorite thing to do.  I would much rather paint "things" and "scenes" etc.

 But... yes... I'm smiling.  And... 2016 has started off with me way out of my comfort zone - but I dared to try and it was worth it!

You are so wonderful to stop by and share my amazement!
Thanks bunches in advance for your comments - they mean so much to me.  My "reply" still doesn't work but again Thank You.

Big Hugs. j.
