THE SHIELD - 30x30 Donation for Auction

Hello sweet creative friends!

I was honored to be asked to do a 30x30 canvas painting for an benefit auction.  I was given the words, the colors and a picture of the shield.

Admittedly, it was scary... and I wasn't sure I could even do it.  But was definitely willing to try for the cause.

Here is the finished project.

The beginning was just slapping paint onto the canvas - so fun - so mindless - just laying down colors!!!  The background was to be shades of green, gold, and white.

The next layer was adding some stencils and stamps!

I used:

DecoArt Andy Skinner Tread Stencil

Rubber Dance Stamps - one from the "For the Birds" Set and the other one - I'm not sure which set.  I just love how sturdy Rubber Dance Stamps are and how easily they clean up.

Paper Inspirations - 1 Corinthians Background Stamp

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics and Americana paint.

DecoArt Crackle Paint - White

ColourArte - Silks Acrylic Glaze

Faber-Castelle - Big Brush and Pitt Pens

Then began the tone done using washes, splashes and gesso.
It went through a lot of transitions... layer upon layer.

And then I began adding the shield and words.

Hubby helped sketch the outline and then I gessoed the design.

Since the goal was an "old world" look - crackle paint was added to the shield.

Then began the painting of the shield and the words!

Hubby made a frame for the finished piece!

From what we were told - the painting was a big hit and was a great fundraiser! We even sold a few prints afterward!!!  What a blessing that was to us!!

Thanks bunches for stopping by to see another of my creations!!

And thanks bunches and bunches to those of you who have left me sweet comments.  My reply button doesn't work but your comments encourage me to keep creating - I'm grateful for each one of them.
Hugs, j.

Proverbs and Sayings;
You may create any type of art inspired by a proverb or saying.
-------
The proverb that inspired my work was literally from the Bible!

Proverbs 2:7 - The shield in this picture was based on this proverb.
The group the painting was done for is a Christian based group.
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield for those who walk in integrity.

Proverbs 30:5 - another proverb mentioning the shield.
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

Hot diggity dang girl! This is an inspired and amazeballs piece! So happy for you to share this and join in for a good cause. The crackle on the shield adds such a creative age to it. Is it a family crest for anyone? Lovely words as well. Your rocked it! ~Niki
