Howdy Dear Friends and Happy May Day!!!

When I was a little girl, I used to make my own May baskets and hang them on all the neighbors doors!!! Fun!!!

Today I am delighted to share another Design Team post for:

Sweet Jennie is our hostess and she chose "Hit the Books"!

She said: For your projects this month we would like to see you searching through your stash for old book paper or books and create a project with what you find.  You might want to use papers within your project or you might want to breath new life into an old book by altering it in some way.  I hope I have chosen a challenge theme with huge scope for projects small or large.

Whatever you make, let us see you give those old book papers or books center stage.

Sure hope you get creative and join us!
This months sponsor is Crafty Individuals
They are providing a huge bundle of goodies for the winner!

Here is my "Hit the Books" design!

I recently used some DecoArt Americana Deco-Page paper from their Victorian Romance Set and was really longing to use another page - the Victorian Script paper.  So when I saw that this challenge was about books and book paper I was delighted to pull out this LUSCIOUS paper and play!!!

It was attached to a 8x10 canvas board.  After drying I sanded it to add texture and be sure there were no bumps!  Then I went over it with French Ultramarine Ranger Archival Ink.

I added sentiments and stars from Journal Doodles from the Heart by Unity/Susan K Weckesser....
"Touch the Stars" and "There is Always Hope"

I saw a cute doggie on line with a patriotic hat on it's head which made me think of how cute he would be with an old American Government book as a pillow for this Hit the Books challenge!!!

When I first drew this sketch, I was very doubtful that a dog would ever come to life on this project!!!  What a crazy drawing.

One of the first things I did after drawing was add the book paper to the center of the hat. For some reason, I didn't get a picture of it. I glued the paper down and painted over it with the lovely translucent DecoArt Media Mister in red.

After my first coat of paint - I was a tiny bit more hopeful!!!
 I used DecoArt Media Acrylics.

Here is the picture of the dog that I printed from the internet to help me out. In the end - my dog doesn't look quite like a chocolate lab but at least it is some kind of DOG!!!!

DecoArt Media Crackle Glaze was added to the book and the hat for some texture!

The stars didn't look right to me - they seems to just "stick out" too much. So I added water to my DecoArt Media red and blue acrylics to do a wet on wet watercolor behind the stars.  So much fun!

Here is a picture - adding a little blue, lots of red, more blue.

Until it looked like this!

I had lots of fun with the challenge.
HIT THE BOOKS was exactly what my little Hope did using that old book as a pillow!!! Sure hope you will put on your thinking cap and join us at OUR CREATIVE CORNER, using your own book paper or book of some type!!!

Here are some close up pics of Hope - the Patriotic Puppy!!

I so honored to be doing this Design Team post for
And I'm grateful that each of you stopped by to see me.
God Bless America and God Bless All of YOU.
Hugs. j.
