Fall Fishin' Canvas

Hello from Joi@RR!

I grew up near the lake at Branson Missouri and fishing was a joy for our entire family. Today, at the ranch, we have three ponds plus a lake nearby.  Although, in Texas we don't usually have vibrant fall foliage my painting could definitely be a Missouri scene!

I used a really fun fishing digi image for the next
Through the Craft Room Door Challenge for Sept. 26.

ENTER your project HERE:
ANYTHING GOES!!!!

Would love to see you there - from cards to mixed media  - all projects welcome!

Prize: £8 digi voucher
 from our sponsor Morgan's Artworld.

You can find the "sport 9" fishing image I chose HERE:

~ ~ ~
This project is on a 14x18 wrapped canvas.

This first photo is of the original layout with the digi image and the StencilGirl Windswept Tree Stencil.

The tree was traced in pencil and permanent marker.
Then the entire sky (including the tree) was painted
with DecoArt Media Cobalt Teal Hue.

The field was done in English Red Oxide, Cadmium Orange and Diarylide Yellow.

The water is a mix of Gesso and Cerulean Blue.

The tree was then filled in with Crackle Paint and a bit of black gesso for the hollow tree parts.

And here is the background finished...
waiting on the crackle paint to dry.

After the crackle was dry I began adding the color to the tree using Antiquing Cream in English Red Oxide and Raw Umber. Just add and wait for it to dry - wipe and add more until you're satisfied.

Then the fun part... adding brightly colored leaves!

I also added Fluid Acrylic Paint and Metallic Lustre to the tree limbs and leaves.  I just have to have a bit of shimmer!!

The digi image was colored with Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens. I used these in almost every art project that I do. They are my favorites in a permanent pen.

The digi image was placed onto the canvas with Matt Medium.

I few photos of the finished image.

I so love the colors of fall and had a great time sharing them as a background for this super neat fishing digi.
Thanks to each of you for visiting my blog!!  Xj.

OWL STUMP: Through the Craftroom Door Magazine DT Post

Hello from Joi@RR!

We have an owl on the ranch that has lived here as long as we have!  He even lets us see him sometimes and leaves us feathers.

That's why I chose this very lovely digi image of an owl for the next Through the Craft Room Door Challenge for Sept. 12.

ENTER your project HERE:

Prize: £8 digi voucher
from our sponsor Crafts and Me.

You can find the "owl eyes" image I chose HERE:

~ ~ ~
My project is done on a dead tree stump.  It is approx. 12x8 in height and width but big around and a bit heavy!  It is cedar harvested from the ranch by hubby.

It is made to hold something on top. Perhaps a candle.

Here is a photo of the back of the stump.
The wood is so much prettier in person!

I began by tracing the wonderful image onto the wood with DecoArt Americana Transfer Paper.

Using my wood burning tool, I embedded the image into the wood.

I used DecoArt Media Antiquing Cream to enhance the image.

You can see below where Titanium White was added for a moon glow. Next came Carbon Black and Titanium White to enhance the owl. A bit of  Patina Green on the leaves along with a tiny bit of white on the flowers.

The image is just so pretty that my goal was to just enhance it by staying neutral!

I personally like just a small votive in the top
but this look is fun too!!

Thanks bunches and bunches for stopping by.
Hope you are creating some fun fall projects too.
I KNOW many of you are because I am 'watching'!!! Xj.

I'm hope you can see my finished piece in this Sept/Oct edition of Through The Craft Room Door Magazine

On a Personal Note: We survived Hurricane Harvey after days and days of miserable wind/rain with flooding to only two of our buildings. We are fine and our home is safe... as are the horses, cattle, chickens. Roads were closed and we could not get out for days. School is closed, of course.  But all is well. Now we have Hurricane flood survivors staying at the ranch.  We are thankful to be able to be a blessing to others. Xj.
