White Poinsettia DecoArt Canvas: DT post for Through the Craft Room Door Challenge

Hello from Joi@RR!

What to do with a simple poinsettia?
Make it unique!!!

This project was done on a 18 x 24 wrapped canvas.

Step by Step Instructions

Just begin painting.
No plan - just light and loosely adding the background.
I used my fingers, several brushes and lots of layers.
Just go wild and have fun!

After your background is dry... add your
image to the canvas with DecoArt Media Matte Medium.

After the image was totally dry, the entire
piece was covered with a white gesso wash.
Just water down the gesso and paint.

Begin to decorate your canvas!
Add some leaves, some branches, and some texture.

The DecoArt Media spray mister is wonderful
for adding vivid but transparent colors as is
the Metallic Lustres.

And here it is after the first go round.

Still more paint to add...

And then... it was done!

After all was completed, the canvas was varnished
with DecoArt Media Satin Varnish.

Here are a few close-ups.

Lots of fun texture!!!

Somehow I have never been in love with a solid
red poinsettia. I always hunt for the unique one.
Today - I'm happy. I have a unique poinsettia
that will live for a long long time!! Xj.

PEACEFUL TURKEY Acrylic Abstract on Paper

The turkeys on the ranch are peacefully grazing in the field.
They have no fear of demise!!!
But how could I resist painting one???!!!

Truthfully - it looks more like a big chicken than a turkey!!!
Heheheh - but it was fun!!

I began by making crazy color splotches with DecoArt Media
Fluid Acrylics all over a piece of 12x12 glitter paper.

After it was dry, I drew a rough outline.
My goal was to be very abstract with the turkey but...
somehow my abstract ended up being rather defined!

I used white gesso which I was delighted to see turning
colors - even though the paint was dry. Just so fun.

With my liner brush I added some details -
here and there - in various colors.
No rhyme or reason - just play time - until it looked right.

Products Used:

And a couple of close ups...
I really like the turkey's head because he looks so peaceful.

Wishing each of you a blessed Thanksgiving Holiday. Xj.

Christmas Round-up Charcoal Canvas: Through the Craft Room Door

Hello from Joi@RR!

Recently I have had a fun time working
with charcoal and colored pencils.
So I used them on this Cowboy Christmas Canvas!
It is 8x10 and on canvas board.

Using a Lacy Sunshine Cowboy digi image, I drew
scenery all around him with a charcoal pencil.

Time to just begin filling in the sketch with
various charcoal pencils.

And then the fun begins... add a bit of color!

After coloring with my Inktense pencils I like
to enhance the drawing by going over the
colors with DecoArt Media Matte Medium.

Of course, it would be hard not to use DecoArt
Snow Writer and a bit of DecoArt Media Translucent
White to make this scene a wintery wonderland.

After outlining the little cowboy with
DecoArt Media Carbon Black... all done!!!
