Making Magic on Magic Mountain Mixed Media on Canvas

The Story: Skyler often walks along the shoreline pondering her future.  For you see...the King of Magic Mountain made a contract with her Father years ago.  Skyler would soon become the wife of the Prince of Magic Mountain.  What did Prince Spectrum look like? Was he kind and gentle? Or was he a Warrior with little need of a wife.  Would they be friends? Would they fall in love. Or would she just be kept in a gilded cage.  Skyler had every hope that living in the realms of Magic Mountain would be the dream come true she imagines as she gazes toward her future.

Hello sweet artistic friends!
Today - I tried making magic!!!

Here is the Making Magic Mood Board that inspired this creation.

I began by adding different textures to my 20" x 24" canvas.

This was taken upside down - waiting for it to dry.
And the tape is to mark where Princess Skyler's head will go!

Modelling Paste and Fiber Paste

Modelling Paste and Glass Bead Gel

DecoArt Media Crackle Paste

I began by painting the rays of light above the castle on Magic Mountain using Silks Acrylics and Neocolor II paints.

This picture is upside down... again.... oh well - you can tell!

After I finished painting... it was time for the Princess.

I sketched her in with black Stabilo All

This picture is way too dark - but you can see that after painting I added Stampendous Shaved Ice to her hood as well as Ranger Stickles Crystal Ice to her dress.

I also added glass beads for more texture.  Here are some close up pictures for you too!

This was a fun challenge for me. I just love exploring textures and color together.  Wish you could see it in person!  It shimmers and shines and sparkles!  It's another world!!!

Hugs to all... and a safe holiday weekend if you are in the USA!

There are such magical textures in this, Joi - I'm so glad you shared all those close-ups of the wonderful variations. The rays, the planets, the corner of the mountain she's standing on and even the trimming of her cape - it's such a delight for the eyes, and must be fabulous for the fingertips too. Amazing!

I love this painting and the story behind it!! I often make stories to go with my paintings - it kinda just happens as part of creating the picture. The textures you've created are wonderful and add fantastically to the fantasy element. Really like this!
