Fourth of July Abstract Flag on Wood

Time for a bit of 'group' creativity!

These projects were done in prep for a class here at the ranch in celebration of patriotic holidays.

One was a pro-type and one was done during the teaching of the class. Hubby cut the wood panels!

On the wood panel - sketch out you plan!

Add a layer of paint. In this case, I added DecoArt Media Prussian Blue Hue all over the wood board.  I wanted the blue color to show through a bit underneath the other colors.  I also love that the wood grain shows through the colors.

Using DecoArt Media Crackle Paste and an old star stencil - the stars were randomly added.

I added the paper stars early because I enjoy painting around them to make them blend better but you could also add them after you finish painting the stripes.

As you can see I cut out the stars from DecoArt Americana Decoupage Papers: Olde Worlde and Victorian Romance. There were several different choices of patterns. Using DecoArt Media Matte Medium, they were placed on the wood background.

Painting the red and white stripes was the next step in the process. This was done with DecoArt Media Transparent White and Pyrrole Red.

Spicing up the stars with DecoArt Metallic Lustre was fun!  Just use a liner brush and add the "bling" around each star.

To add dimension, paint around the stars with Prussian Blue Hue and Metallic Silver.

Accent the red, white and blue with DecoArt Glamour Dust. The sparkle looks like the flag is waving!

Can you see the glitter sparkle?!!

I believe in YOU... go be creative!!!

My daughter likes the one on the right. I like the one on the left.  And in the class, everyone had permission to do what made them feel happy.  You won't believe the outcome.  Check back soon for the photos from the patriotic fun we had in our class!!!

Both are beautiful representations of our flag and I would be so proud to have one hanging in my home! I love that the would has a 'ruffled' edge--great wood working as well as great art! Love watching how this comes together; wish I could take a class from you! Hugs!
