Today is the Day After a Hootin' Nite of Play Canvas

Whew, am I worn out... I spent a hootin' night playin' with my favorite feathered friends here at the ranch.  Soooo fun!!!!

This is a small canvas: 6" x 10".

Beginning with an adorable napkin as my inspiration...
I started cutting and applying with DecoArt Decou-page.

The canvas was painted with a couple of my favorite DecoArt colors... Prussian Blue Hue & Quinacridone Gold.

Originally, I was going horizontal - as in the above picture - but the owls just seemed to fly to their own branches!!   So the tree climbed upward and expanded.  For additional texture on the tree... of course... DecoArt Weathered Wood Crackle Medium.

Here are some close-ups of the texture!
I purposely bubbled a bit of the weathered wood to

I didn't spend a lot of time perfecting the branches because they were going to be mostly covered by our owl family.

The coloring of the tree trunk was enhanced with DecoArt Metallic Lustre - Iced Expresso and Rose Gold. Faber-Castelle Big Brush and Pitt Pens were also used on this project.

The owl family was fussy cut from the napkin and applied with Decou-page but it seemed like the napkins material blended right in with the background as you can see below in the picture.  So... I began painting with DecoArt Media Acrylics!  It was really fun to just follow the outline of the owls and leaves with my paint brush plus it allowed me to add a bit of texture with the colors too.

I redid the sentiment too!

I loved how it turned out but it seems a bit "flat" to me so... I added some leaves and some feathers. The leaves were cut out of gelli prints that I had done previously. After cutting the leaves out... I painted over a few of them, to change the coloring a bit, with ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glaze.  One of our ranch hands has two birds and she brings me feathers.  It was great fun to add the feathers above the eyes of the owl family!!!

The little project turned out with lots of texture and fun colors too.  I enjoyed creating a roost for the owl family and going on a frolic to have a HOOTIN great nite of play.

As always.... I really really appreciate you stopping by and reading about my little owl frolic!

And again - my "reply" button is broken on my blog... so I can't tell you thank you in person BUT... your comments always make my day.  Thanks bunches and bunches.
Hugs. j.
